Prepper's Cache: Arrangement

What to hide in caches or caches?

Before we start actually creating caches, let’s think about what we should store. Obviously, these will not be capital warehouses with a 10-year supply. At the same time, they must satisfy at least minimal needs. The following categories can be distinguished:

  1. Food – Medicines (according to your level of knowledge in medicine);
  2. Means of exchange (alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, etc.);
  3. Life support items (according to survival priorities).

Essentially, this is a small alarm case outside the home. We will talk in more detail about the necessary supplies in the following publications.

Chapter 1

The moon grins cheerfully in the breaks in the clouds, illuminating the endless northern taiga, covered with the ashy silver of snow. A hill rises from the coniferous ocean, like the shell of a gigantic turtle. A couple of hundred meters below, where the forest begins, there is an unremarkable lonely clearing with a slight swelling closer to the edge. This is not a wide boulder hidden under a blanket of snow and not an overgrown snowdrift, as a traveler who accidentally wandered here might think, who somehow miraculously survived the atomic fire of the apocalypse, in the fierce cold of nuclear winter and managed to overcome hundreds of kilometers of deserted space. No, here is a carefully disguised entrance to warm, cozy rooms.

The storerooms are full of supplies and weapons, a spacious room with a carpet on the floor and a slightly rumpled wide bed. An endless series murmurs on the wide computer screen, sometimes glanced at by a pretty red-haired girl running the kitchen adjacent to the room. Appetizing smells fill the hall. The girl hums under her breath one of the once popular, but now sunk into oblivion, songs. Graceful breasts beaded with sweat. She is wearing only thin panties. The shelter is so warm that she spends most of her time with little or no underwear.

The rooms are heated by the heat of a radioisotope thermoelectric generator located one level below. Is it a sin not to take advantage of free heat? It runs through special air ducts throughout all rooms. Additional heating is provided by a titanium oven, on which various delicacies are constantly boiled, fried and baked. But the smoke will not give away the secret of the shelter. The air compressor does not push it to the surface. The chimney turns ninety degrees, stretches along the ceiling and dives to the lower level, from where, without stopping, even lower, through the floor screed, into the underground karst voids of natural origin.

Another pipe provides drinking water intake, and another one serves as a sewerage system. After passing a forty-meter well, you can find yourself on the banks of a rumbling underground river. If you move along the riverbed, you will see many beautiful grottoes with lakes, bizarre stalactites and stone flowers, a labyrinth of passages and tunnels. In the end, you find yourself in a small chamber near the exit from the caves. But you won’t be able to go out into the fresh air, especially if you came with bad intentions.

Like Cerberus guarding the kingdom of the dead, the exit to the outside is guarded by an equally fierce guard. He sits near the fire, but even this position cannot hide the size of the giant. Hands lumpy with monstrous muscles tear meat with ease. Jaws that would be the envy of a ferocious bull terrier bite into a half-cooked, bloody piece of a recently killed deer. A gaze full of frozen rage glides across the space of the cave. Sooty vault, skulls and gnawed bones of animals. Skins covering the cold floor. A skeleton in a German World War II uniform with a guitar in its decayed paws. Knives, spears, several AKs and a dozen M-16s are neatly stacked in a pyramid; there is an interesting pattern on the walls. It is not difficult to guess from it that the owner of the cave served in the airborne troops and went through many battles. This is also evidenced by the edge of a faded vest peeking out from under a heap of skins, and a blue beret carelessly pushed to the back of his head, singed in places.

The paratrooper's gaze stops at a separate drawing, drawn with the same soot on the cold wall. This is a pretty well done portrait of a dark-haired girl with sad eyes. A rectangle frame with a black ribbon in the corner is drawn around the face. Just below the inscription: “Sorry, Katenka...” On a flat stone there is a glass of vodka, covered with a piece of dried meat. A single tear appears in the corner of the eye and slowly flows down, crossing the terrible burn scar, and is lost in the gray stubble.

A terrifying roar full of despair and melancholy tears apart the silence of the night. The canopy at the entrance flutters nervously, the wolves running along the frozen river bed raise their muzzles and howl nervously. With a cry, a dozing raven falls from a branch. During its hundred-year life, the wise bird had never heard more terrible sounds. She beats the frosty air with her black wings, rising higher and higher. Lost below is a winding river with a scary cave on the bank, a wooded slope, a clearing where a people’s shelter is hidden under the thickness of snow and stone... even higher! The air flow picks you up and carries you to the gray, windswept top of the hill.

At the top stands a man in a polar suit, the blizzard ruffles the fur of his fur hood thrown back. In strong hands there is a Saiga carbine, a revolver on the belt, and safety glasses do not cover the courageous face, as they are pushed onto the forehead.

This stern warrior is me. And my name is Sanya. I slowly opened my eyes and smiled, looking around my surroundings. Oh, and he doesn’t bother himself, damn it! The forest glows with intricate colors, the clouds draw smoky fractal patterns, the wind seems to overflow with energy every atom of my body, and it rings like a taut string. Thoughts run one after another, overtaking each other, weaving into intricate chains, twisting into tight spirals and exploding in supernova explosions. Why did you have to lick this toad? After all, he swore off. But I’m a survivalist, and a survivalist needs to be a little alert so as not to miss the danger.

I spent a month without going out in the cache. Lena and I rested, drank, ate, copulated, watched a movie, played on the computer and copulated again. Now that she is carrying my child, we no longer think about contraception. My son will be born soon, and I will teach him everything I know. The skill of hand-to-hand combat, the secrets of hunting wild animals - it wouldn’t hurt me to learn myself... but the main thing is survival, destruction of enemies and the salvation of humanity.

Of course, the idyll of our heavenly life was slightly spoiled by Vovan. On that memorable meeting, I was terribly happy and surprised to see a paratrooper emerging from a hatch in the floor of my storeroom. Naturally, they rushed into a meeting, and no matter how hard I tried to find out the story of the rescue of the Airborne Forcesman, I did not hear anything intelligible. He says he woke up at the entrance to his lair. He doesn’t remember how he got out of the fire and how he walked many kilometers. I think he was thrown out by the explosion, he was in shock. After all, Katya stayed there...

The paratrooper discovered my cache by accident, out of nothing to do, while wandering around the cave. Of course, I immediately guessed that it belonged to me. There are a lot of photos of Lena and I hanging on the walls, which I took on my phone and then printed out on a printer. Someone might ask: why do you need an inkjet color printer in a shelter? And I will answer: why not? Don't throw it away. Vovan did not ruin my supplies. So, I came in to wash myself and borrowed some household items. For this, by the way, I brought in more than a dozen kilos of venison. But no matter how I tortured him with leading questions, the paratrooper swore that he had found my hole just the other day, when Lena and I were in Kandalaksha. I immediately had suspicions about her. I was alone in the Cache for a long time... and then there was this pregnancy... oh, this paranoia!

But looking into Vovan’s honest blue eyes, I could not imagine such a setup from him. Although, just in case, I hung a large lock on the hatch. And we agreed that he would no longer come in without my knowledge. But there is only one key, and it is always with me. I have already decided for myself - I will help this killing machine equip a human shelter. Such a nearby neighbor will always reliably cover your rear. Together with the landing force and Yegorych, we will restore order in the area and repel any attack. By the way, it was Vovan who almost single-handedly slaughtered a detachment of pendos. Grandfather came by a few days later, spoke warmly of him, helped himself to my alcohol and spit shag on the carpet. But it remains unclear whether Yurik survived?

But Valera is nowhere to be seen. I don’t really count on the bespectacled guy. It’s better for him to sit in his bunker and not stick his nose out. And his wife, most likely, will let him go to hell. Although, I thought he would come for his toad. My life with Zyuz is comfortable, warm and satisfying. Every day I fed her all sorts of spiders and watched her swim in the aquarium. But I decided to try her psychedelic poison only today. Probably out of boredom. Having told Lena that I was going hunting, I secretly lightly licked the toad’s back. And he walked away. Fuck knows how this will affect me. Suddenly, I’ll become like Yurets, just as crazy. Plus I needed a slightly altered mind to plan further strategy.

Where is the key question that determines both the safety of your cache and whether you can use it if necessary. There are several criteria by which you should choose a suitable location

  1. Safety. The area in which you want to set up a secret warehouse should be deserted and difficult to access. This will allow you to protect your supplies from other people. It is highly undesirable to place caches in places favored by black diggers. The area must be insured against severe changes as a result of natural disasters. Dangerous places are places where landslides, flooding, logging, etc. often occur.
  2. Availability. It is necessary to maintain a fine line between the inaccessibility of the area and the ease of use of the cache. The distance from your main base should not be too great, and the path should not be too risky. Remember that it is better to make several small caches in different places than just one. Remember Robinson.
  3. Landmarks. It is very important not only to hide the cache well, but also to be able to quickly find it later. Therefore, having good guidelines is the most important criterion.

a) First-order landmarks These are large, reliable, well-remembered landmarks that change little under the influence of nature or man. These include rocks, large stones, characteristic relief features, trails and other linear landmarks. Their purpose is to indicate the approximate location of the cache

b) Second-order landmarks To more accurately determine the coordinates of a place, you will need simpler landmarks that allow you to achieve high accuracy. In my opinion, it is best to place the cache between two trees, or in azimuth from a certain point landmark. The second option is less preferable, because at a critical moment the compass may be missing.

Cache and stash: how to keep your supplies safe and untouched

There are two fundamentally different approaches to survival . The first is based on skills, abilities and the ability to obtain supplies, water and food in any conditions. The second is survival through reserves. Methods can be combined, but it just so happens that in our latitudes they prefer to improve their own skills, while overseas colleagues create multi-membered nooks and caches . Which, however, does not mean that we do not need to think about reserves. On the contrary, it is very necessary.

Why do you need caches and hiding places?

The presence of nests and caches allows you to better distribute your supplies for survival. Still, storing all your valuables in one place is not the best option, especially when there is chaos all around.

This will also allow you to take more tools and useful things with you at the very moment of danger, instead of the supplies of food, water and fuel that you already have. This will help more people be saved.

Less weight carried means faster, more efficient and discreet movement. In addition, there is no need for a survival vehicle, in which all this nonsense needs to be transported.

Pre-arranged hiding places will save you from robbery. After all, there is a high chance that in a situation where “the shit hits the fan,” looters and robbers will visit the homes of those who prepared for unfavorable situations and keep all the useful supplies at home. But finding hideouts and caches is much more difficult than finding a permanent home.

Someone may use such caches to store illegal weapons. It is unlikely that such people will want a random visit by the police and a search of the house to reveal the presence of something illegal there. However, it is an indisputable fact that in a survival situation, weapons will be extremely useful if you have the appropriate skills to use them. Therefore, we simply recommend that you stay within the law when it comes to weapons, and decide for yourself whether they are in your cache.

What is the difference between “nychki” and “cache”?

Survival tip

This is a small cache of supplies hidden in a place that only you know about. Stealth is a priority when choosing a location for the nock, since it may be a long time before you actually need to use it. That is why most of our colleagues who have chosen the “storage path” prefer to bury holes at shallow depths in places with some characteristic features. Almost like a treasure, only more useful.

Cache

In fact, it is somewhat different from the nychka. This is something like a full-fledged base for survival away from your main home. A hut in the forest, an inconspicuous dugout, a furnished cave. You can live there in complete peace for some time, using only supplies and tools. In addition, many try to place their “survival nests” in close proximity to the cache, or on the way to it. Purely for convenience and availability in an emergency.

How and what to “dive”?

Maps and coordinates

Phenomenal memory is wonderful. But correctly recorded coordinates on the map are even better. Because they will remain faithful even if the landscape changes greatly. Seriously, when a forest fire breaks out, will you be able to find that “big crooked tree” near which the hole is buried again? In addition, the coordinates of the caches can be shared with like-minded people experiencing difficulties. Still, survival is a collective matter, so without interaction there is nowhere. You can use a GPS system, but it is better to take the most ordinary paper maps linked to a ten-digit coordinate system. Or any other maps that you know how to navigate and that people have access to.

Tools

They are too heavy and bulky to carry around with you all the time, especially as part of your emergency evacuation gear. But they make life much easier, so there must be a place for them in the cache. The priority list will include a survival knife, a saw, both regular and folding. Or even separate blades for a jigsaw type saw.

As for chainsaws, although they save time, they require fuel and easily reveal your location. So we would recommend taking a regular full-size ax and saw instead.

You can also add hammers, garden tools that make harvesting easier, as well as spare building materials such as nails, self-tapping screws and self-tapping screws.

That's all for now. In the next part we will continue to discuss the list of necessary “survival equipment” that can (and should) be placed in places prepared for this. We will also consider options for airtight and reliable containers for nesting.
