Explore or Die

Research is too important, so don't limit yourself to just one workshop. It's best to build and fill four workshops with workers to double or triple the amount of research you can do at a time. Of course, every research requires resources. Do not be afraid of difficulties (and when maintaining four workshops, they will be), since such a risk is justified. In general, there should be at least two workshops in the city!

But workshops sitting idle will be of no use, you need to do research. The survival of the entire civilization depends on obtaining new technologies, such as automata, thermal insulation of houses and improving scouts (increasing the number of groups at the lighthouse and the speed of their movement). Remember, if you need additional workers, the workshop can be disabled.

Provide yourself with a constant supply of coal

Coal is the lifeblood of your city, and there are three ways you can accumulate it. We are talking about coal miners, coal kilns and coal mines. All buildings involve completely different coal mining technologies, but I would recommend focusing on one specific one! It's better to put all your effort into one method than to split into two or three. For beginners, I recommend using coal miners - this is the most low-tech method of coal mining.

After creating a coal miner, you will also need to assign workers to collect the pile of coal that forms next to the building. But it is best to build a collection point next to the coal miner to collect coal automatically. The collection point will require its own workers. A coal miner generates a resource from a void, unlike a coal mine, which must be located next to coal deposits. Coal stoves generate coal by burning your wood reserves.

Build coal miners next to each other to collect coal from several buildings at once with one collection point. In addition, collection points are heated, so people will be protected from the cold. Steam centers can also be placed nearby. Don't forget to build storage facilities that expand the maximum possible supply of resources. And remember – warehouses don’t require heat!

Send scouts to search for steam cores

Explore the “beacon” and additional scout teams for it as early as possible. Research that increases the speed of movement of your groups will be useful. Sending several reconnaissance teams will speed up the receipt of dividends. And reconnaissance is the only way to find new survivors and advance through the plot. Even better, scouts can locate steam cores, automata, and even technology. True, the latter will be possible after you decide the fate of three groups of refugees and you are asked to examine stereoscopic lenses.

Without new people, you will not be able to expand your capabilities, and steam cores are needed not only for creating automata, but also for the construction of more technologically advanced buildings.

Issue the right laws to strengthen the colony

This is the point where you can be cunning by combining different laws that increase each other's effectiveness. But the game is designed in such a way that you can only view the laws available to unlock. All laws that are in an as yet unexplored tree can be considered only after the discovery of the first one. Not all of the adopted laws are beneficial; strict decrees will often have to be approved. If you choose unpopular laws, people's dissatisfaction will gradually increase. You may even face a worse situation - the population will refuse to work.

To keep people happy and healthy, try to unlock the following laws, which provide benefits against a slight increase in discontent:

- Maintaining life. A very important law at an early stage. You will spend money on sick people, but you will be able to save more workers (who will be cured in the future) and avoid amputation. Your priority should be to improve your work efficiency.

— Quick collection. Since I recommended focusing on coal miners, this particular law needs to be approved. Workers will be able to collect coal faster, which will be useful throughout the game.

- Double rations. The problem with products will be relevant throughout the game. If you want people to be happy (satisfied), you will have to choose double rations. This will increase the speed of recovery of patients and allow them to return to work faster. Just remember to provide a constant and good supply of raw food.

All these laws can be called safe, but not the only useful ones. So, I find the “Soup” and “Moonshine” laws to be a very good combination.

Make people work, but don't overdo it

Your workers will have a standard 10-hour work schedule, but you can extend the working hours using two laws - the Emergency Scheme and the Extended Scheme. You can also send children to work - “Safe work for children” and “Any work...”. In the first case, children will help in the kitchen and in medical institutions, in the second - everywhere. However, the latter will lead to injury and death. Building children's shelters and teaching children medicine or engineering will provide benefits later in the game.

At the beginning of the game, I would recommend unlocking safe child labor so that 15 children out of the 80 available citizens can help with the work. This is cruel, but it will allow you to get things moving much faster.

At the same time, you will be able to independently control which objects will work with a normal schedule and which ones with an increased schedule. For example, it will be possible to extend the work of workshops used for numerous research, and then return to normal hours when they are idle.

Shutdown, dismantling and dictatorship

You must remember that literally every building in the game can be disabled. If you are conducting one research and have no resources for others, then disable the remaining workshops. If you have an excessive amount of raw food, you can turn off the hunters' huts or greenhouses. You can also dismiss workers from non-functional buildings. For example, you have produced a sufficient number of automata at the factory and there are simply not enough steam cores to produce other machines. Shut down the building and dismiss the workers!

If too many tents or barracks have been built around the generator and there is not enough space in the first thermal ring for a medical station, you can dismantle several buildings. You will also need to dismantle certain resource buildings if they have cleared the entire area around them. For example, this happens with sawmills when there are no trees lying around.

Automatons are not afraid of the cold

For buildings located outside the thermal ring with insufficient heating levels, automata can be used. These are resource-intensive robots that work continuously (they only stop to refuel - the nearest steam center is used for this). They do not get sick or fail due to extreme cold.

Try to have the automata work in one area, next to which build a steam center, which will reduce the pause required for refueling.

Build houses and research improved thermal insulation

This is a simple but very effective tip that will be very useful in the late game. When you start building houses, try to research their thermal insulation as soon as possible. This will reduce the power required for heating, since the houses themselves will produce some heat. And when the extreme cold comes, you will need all the tools available to survive!

Knowing how to manipulate and switch between generator settings will be critical to survival. You can increase the generator power level from “1” to “4”, which is useful during a cold storm, but this will increase coal consumption. Some research will expand the range of the generator, but will again increase coal consumption. Use the boost mode to instantly increase the amount of heat by several levels (depending on your research).

Afterburner will be needed during dangerous cold weather, but do not forget that if the generator overheats, it may explode. You will be given a choice - send a child who will die, sacrifice one steam core, or leave everything as it is and see a bad ending.

The trick is this: when activating the afterburner mode, lower the power level by two points. Thus, you will maintain the same power, but reduce coal consumption. This method can be used throughout the game. Here's another great way to save on coal consumption!

The human brain works with 100% reliability. This corresponds to the dynamic principle of existence. Even if we assume that the brain works, say, with 99% reliability, then, according to the dynamic principle of existence, through natural selection, a person must die, because after 99 correct decisions in life-threatening situations, the brain will definitely give one wrong, fatal decision , which means a death sentence for the individual and then the species. Or it will turn 99% into 100%, and the species will continue to exist.

It would not be a mistake to compare the human brain with a computer (cybernetics arose from the study of how the brain works). Both the brain and the computer work based on the same patterns. The human brain, from this position, is a perfect biological computer.
